WEDDING RETOUCHING - Beauty Edit
Beauty is subjective. We generally adhere to European-American beauty standards. This includes clean, bright skin, perfect hair, sharp eyes, bright white teeth, and highly detailed designer labels. Unless the client specifies something, we will follow this basic process for all images.
REMEMBER TO SAVE YOUR WORK CONSTANTLY.
Make a copy of the “Background Layer”; Label it “Liquify”
Make two copies of the “Liquify” layer and Label it “HI” and “LO”; This technique is called high-frequency separation
Create a “Group” with the “HI” and “LO” Layers so you can toggle back and forth
Click to highlight the “LO” layer; Click on “Filter” > “Blur” > “Gaussian Blur”; Adjust the Blur level to make sure the skin looks perfectly smooth
Click to highlight the “HI” layer; Click on “Image” > “Apply Image”
Change the drop-down “Layer” option to the “LO” layer
Change the drop-down “Blending” option to the “Subtract”
Click “OK”
The “HI” Layer is going to look weird and grey. Go to the “Layers” Panel and click on the drop-down menu that says “Normal” and select “Linear Light”
Start at the head of the subject and work your way down on the “HI” layer
Use the “Patch Tool” to remove the larger blemishes and texture
Use the “Stamp Tool” on a low opacity and flow until you are comfortable with making bigger strokes
Select the “LO” layer and adjust the color if necessary to make it a more uniform color
Make a new layer (SHIFT + COMMAND + N) named “Dodge and Burn” or “DB”
Change the drop-down “Mode” option to “Overlay”
Use the “Brush Tool”; “Soft Round”, “Opacity” = <15%, “Flow” = <25%
Set “Foreground” color to White to Lighten or “Dodge”
Set “Foreground” color to Black to Darken or “Burn”
Make a “Client Correction” layer
Create a new layer by highlighting all of your work in the “Layers” panel
SHIFT + OPTION + COMMAND + E = New layer with all highlighted layers; Delete this later so that each step is it’s own layer
Make all requested corrections on progressive layers above this
